Armoured Vehicles of the Modern German Army 2018

As the title suggests, this is a yearbook for the armoured vehicles of the modern German Army. It covers every single armoured vehicle in service in Germany as of October 2017. Each subvariant of each type of vehicle gets at least a page with some of the more significant vehicles getting several pages and a few photographs. Each citation covers the basic development of the type, how it differs from the other sub variants and some information on how this subvariant fits within the overall structure of the German armoured forces. Each citation has at least on photo, usually a 3/4 front view to give a good overall impression of the vehicle. Also included at the bottom of each citation is a small technical specification block with basic information on the vehicle plus a block that establishes how many of that particular variant are in service at the publication date.

It is hard to convey just how excellent this book is. The citation text is provided in German and English and, in few words, provides a capsule history of each type, the photos are, without fail, of excellent quality in full colour, the coverage is incredible, each variant and subvariant being covered. If you want to know about the German armoured forces, this is the place to come. What it does not do is provide a lot of information on any particular vehicle. It is not a great modelling resource, although the photos are very good, there are seldom more than one view of any type. But that kind of in-depth detail is not what this book is about. It provides a wide, if shallow, coverage of the armoured forces' vehicles and provides a very useful "snapshot" of the state of the whole of the armoured forces as of the end of 2017.

The book is A4 format and printed on glossy paper. The vehicle sections are organised by functional type and then by vehicle in numerical designation order (i.e. the Leopard 2A5 is before the Leopard 2A6).

Highly Recommended for students of modern German armoured vehicles.
