 This Year's Show Theme

Snow…love or hate it…it can make for some pretty “cool” armor models (see what I did there?).

Snow is the theme for the 2019 AMPS International Convention.  To qualify for the theme award a model must have some sort of winter camouflage scheme and/or replicated snow.  That means there is an all-whitish tone of paint or a pattern of whitish-tone paint with the intent to give the model a winter camouflage in a snowy environment.  It can also be a model that does not have a winter camouflage scheme but it must convey some sort of snow related indications on the model.  For example, snow, slush or icicles on the model.

Figures considered will need to be in some sort of winter gear and in a winter environment. The same requirement goes for dioramas and vignettes.

If it is unclear if a model meets the theme the Chief Judge makes the final call using the above criteria and after conferring with the Assistant Chief Judges.  So, get your winter coat on and start building that snowy model.

If you have any questions, please click here and contact David Vickers, the AMPS Chief Judge.

 AMPS Judging Principles

AMPS created a unique system to both judge the model and honor the modeler for artistic achievement and historical accuracy. It is a peer evaluation and mentoring and not a performance critique by experts. The system groups modelers that have similar skill levels and talents and rates the model in relation to the ability of the modeler rather than against the work of another modeler. The skill levels are Junior, Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Master.

Each model is reviewed and evaluated on its own merits and never compared to another one. Established criteria determine the scoring of the model and qualify the modeler for Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Each model is judged by a team of judges that score the model independently and the lowest score among the team is dropped. Constructive feedback is provided that sets a path to becoming a better, more skilled modeler.
