Dragon - Sd.Kfz.251/17 Ausf. C 2 in 1 KIT

  A Brief History

The 251/17 armed with a 2cm Flak 38 was first constructed on Ausf.A & B chassis, those built on the C chassis were purpose built. They were not very successful due to the cramped crew conditions. They were mainly used by Luftwaffe units, there were also a few vehicles produced fitted with FuG 8 radios to be used as Command vehicles.

  What's In the Box

This new kit by Dragon is a 2 in 1 kit giving the modeler the choice of the flak vehicle or the command version. There are 26 grey sprues in the kit, 2 frets of photo etched pieces, and two preformed photo etched guards for the 2 cm flak gun, and decals for both typed of vehicle. The modeler needs to decide early on which type is to be built. As can be seen from the sprue callout below there are many parts not used. If the modeler chooses the command vehicle it looks like he could build a full mobile Flak 38 on its trailer. The command version has many parts for the communication equipment, and a nicely molded one piece antenna ring.

Decals For Two Vehicles

This is a very interesting kit. I am having a hard time deciding which version to build as the command vehicle will be a rare one for the collection. There are many parts to the kit no matter which the modeler decides to build. The tracks alone require two small parts per link. The molding of parts is excellent. This one might not be a good choice for a beginning modeler.

Highly Recommended (pending the full build. Stay tuned.)
