Guideline Publications- Military Modelcraft International- October 2024

We missed last month's issue to review due to a mailing issue, but we are back with the October issue which never disappoints. Editor David Grummitt ponders the state of the hobby in his Forum article talking about the ease of sharing the hobby with others through social media platforms while others still enjoy the solitude of working solo in one's hobby space. Things have certainly changed since our youth and it will be exciting to see how things evolve as the next generation arises.

News at the Front focuses this month on the latest releases from Resin Tech Models, Miniart, ICM, Vargas Scale Models, Border Model, and Gecko Models. This is followed up by four pages of Quartermaster's Stores.

Huw Morgan opens up the build articles with his 1/48 CMK Humber Light Reconnaissance Car Mk. II. The kit features cast resin, 3D-printed, and photoetch parts.

"Fifty Something's Shades of Grey" by a name you may know- Rob Riviezzo sees his painted Bronco Panzer III Ausf. A- his paintwork is as grand as his pre-paint work to be sure.

Ramón Segarra Guerrero is up next with his build of the new ICM "M1097A2". The model is detailed up with Meng's Modern US Military Individual Load-Carrying Equipment set.

This month's Armour in Profile by Thomas Anderson focuses on the use of Czech tanks in the Panzerwaffe and has six excellent color profiles as usual. I really liked the photo I chose showing one tank crossing a river near a bridge.

Konrad Dzik is up next with his debut in MMI- "Stop-Gap Panzer" as he shows off his Tamiya Panzer 38(t). There is some impressive PE work shown off in the article.

"Phuoc Tuy Province, Vietnam 1969" showcases Stefan Szymanski build of Vespid Models 1/72 Centurion Mk. 5/1. Stefan even designed his own figures with a friend for the build.

This month's At The Bench features American modeler Andy Gulden and some excellent examples of his work- inspired by Shep Paine and Francois Verlindon.

Next up in the penultimate article is Matt Edwards and "Dr. Porsche's Elephant" where he rescues a partly built Dragon Ferdinand.

"If War Comes Tomorrow" is inspired by the 1938 Soviet film and features Jaffe Lam's Hobby Boss T-28 on a scratch-built bridge crossing base.

The articles conclude with a feature on the Miniature Armoured Fighting Vehicle Association (MAFVA), introduced by Tom Cole as the UK's premier society for armour modelers.

The issue concludes with reviews of two Osprey books- "East Africa Campaign:The Battle for the Horn of Africa" and "Hamburger Hill 1969: Operation Apache Snow in the A Shau Valley" as well as a book on "The Centurion in Danish Service" from Trackpad Publishing.

Overall- another great issue from Guideline Publishing as the weather changes into fall and show seasons start to slow down.  As always, here is a link to the Guideline Publications website www.guidelinepublications.co.uk and US customers can subscribe to MMI and pay in US dollars at www.guidelinepublicationsusa.com

Highly Recommended for modelers at any level.

Thanks goes out to Guideline Publications for this review sample.
