Guideline Publications- Military Modelcraft International, September 2024

Apologies for the late review of this issue gone by-- but the issue is still on sale here in the States at Barnes & Noble and other fine bookstores. Indeed-- it is a worthy pickup as well-- lots of great build articles of all the major scales- 1/72, 1/48, 1/35, and 1/16. New contributors Ricardo Rivas and Stan Spooner present some excellent builds in the mix. The featured At the Bench person is known to most of us- Andy Klein from Andy's Hobby Headquarters. Let's dive right in...

News at the Front diverts from the normal format of kit previews by including two show reports first-- the MAFVA Nationals reported by Robin Buckland and the IPMS Nats report from MMI's own Tom Foxon. Kit previews follow of samples from Miniart, ICM, Copper State Models, FC Modeltrend, and Border Model. We then get three pages of the Quartermaster's Stores.

Next up, we get a double feature from MMI's US Assistant Editor Rob Riviezzo with his On the Bench review of Rye Field Model's 1/48 "M1024A1 M-ATV MRAP All Terrain Vehicle". Rob shows off his usual PE skills on the kit.

Rob's other article, "In The Beginning..." represents the first part of the two part article on his build of Bronco Model's 1/35 Panzer III Ausf. A. I wrote up the second part in the October issue review where he put his build in the paint booth- a rare treat for us. This part features all the extra work put in pre-paint. Rob rescribed loads of detail and employed various aftermarket parts. Most useful of all was his description of overcoming some errors he made in the kit- something valuable to all of us at one point in time or another in the hobby.

Ramón Segarra Guerrero is up next with his build of Airfix's British Army 30-CWT 4x2 GS Truck in "Thoroughbred Workhorse". He painted up his build in the dazzling Caunter camouflage.

Armour in Profile this month is the next part in MP Robinson's examination of Vietnam War-era US Armor in "Armored Cavalry'. The text is accompanied by five color profiles of featured vehicles.

"Let It Snow!" features Andrea Ricciardi's build of Takom's Bv 206S. The diorama also features some scratched figures and a resin mortar from CMK to represent a winter training exercise.

"Hail the King" has Łukasz Orczyc-Musiałek building Dragon's King Tiger in 1/35. Łukasz used an assortment of aftermarket items to make his King Tiger stand out from the rest.

As mentioned previously, At the Bench features Andy's Hobby Headquarters and Andy Klein. His new 1/16 line of kits is becoming popular and I look forward to seeing what new kits will be announced this year and next.

"Quarter Scale Occupier" features Stan Spooner's Best in Show from IPMS-Nats-- the 1/48 Red Tank Miniatures 3D printed SU-122-54. Stan had a lot to overcome to get the kit looking as it does and it is good to see 1/48 represented.

Ricardo Rivas builds up the iconic Dragon M2A1 Halftrack in "M2 Halftrack". Some mighty fine PE work and aftermarket products improve the already stellar kit.

The last build article "Hit The Beach" from Fernando Granell Olszewski features his sublime build of IBG Models 1/72 Centaur. The kit is placed on a scratchbuilt base featuring a German bunker carved by his father and excellent White Stork Miniatures figures.

The issue concludes with reviews of 4 books- Panzerwrecks' "Defending Normandy", Panzer Tracts "Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. J,L,M, & N", Osprey's "Beutepanzers of WWII", and a Pen & Sword Tankcraft book on the Panzer IV. Another excellent issue from Guideline Publications that can still be purchased at book store chains like Barnes & Noble. To subscribe to the magazine,  as always, here is a link to the Guideline Publications website www.guidelinepublications.co.uk and US customers can subscribe to MMI and pay in US dollars at www.guidelinepublicationsusa.com

Highly Recommended for Beginner to Advanced builders.

Thanks goes out to Guideline Publications for this review sample.
