Sd.Kfz.250/3 Greif

Rommel's Command Half Track

The subject of this review is the specially designed Sd.Kfz.250/3 used by Field Marshall Rommel while in command of the Afrika Corps.  It is upgraded with radios, signal gear, a radio aerial frame antenna and extra Jerry cans and stowage. Also Rommel, known as the "Desert Fox", named this half-track Greif (Griffin) while in command of the Afrika Corps.  This half-track was also upgraded with the Sd.Kfz250/Z Panzeraufbau armored superstructure that had a vision port in the rear door and a rear superstructure that was different from the Sd.Kfz 250/1.  This kit also contains marking for the Adler and the IGEL.  If you would more detailed information about these vehicles click in this link. Greif, Adler and Igel information. I plan on building the Greif.

So, what is in the box?

As with all the Takom kits I have built, the parts come in individual cello bags. There are 17 sprues, decals, a photo-etch set, cable and the separate superstructure section with no broken parts, and they are crisp and absent of flash.

Here are the sprues

2 figures, Driver and Rommel

A view of the instructions

A few of the paint and decal schemes

In conclusion, this looks like an interesting kit to build.  As you can see in the photos there is a small PE fret, 2 figures (now I have to paint figures, I better practice), link to link tracks (I will let you know how these work out), a few radios, a full engine if you decided to display it, and much more. The parts appear to be clean, crisp and detailed.  The instructions look easy to follow. There are quite a few small parts, so those may be a little tricky. But all in all, it looks like a decent kit, and I am looking forward to the build.

Highly Recommended for Beginner to Advanced builders, pending full build.

Thanks goes out to Takom for this review kit.
