Military Illustrated Modeller, AFV Edition, September 2024

For those less familiar, Military Illustrated Modeller is a Bedfordshire, United Kingdom based publication printed in A4 size heavy glossy paper, with crystal clear text and photographs.  Like other modelling publications, Military Illustrated Modeller produces separate editions focused on one genre of modelling, in this case AFV’s.

The September 2024 edition contains 66 pages with articles covering multiple model builds, historic focus topics, along with new and recently released kits, accessories, book reviews, and a preview of the next edition.

Let’s look at the contents.

News: This 2-page spread covers a range of new and future releases of interest to the armour enthusiast.

Defender of Mariupol, covers the build of ICMs Kozak 2 Multi-Purpose Armoured Vehicle built by Tim Hetchenko and painted by his friend Zack Sex.  The build portrays a Ukrainian Marine Kozak 2 during the Russian attack into Mariupol in March – April 2022.  The Kozak 2 build is personal for Tim, as Mariupol is his home town.

Saigon Street-Runner provides a quick look at Gecko Models new kit release of the Lambro 550 three wheeled vehicle commonly seen in Vietnam from the late 1960’s onward.

D-Day Experience (Dead Man’s Corner Museum) is a 6-page photo essay covering one of the best D-Day museums, located in the Normandy village of Saint-Côme-du-Mont.  This article includes numerous close-up detail photos from the museum artifacts.  A great reference for the Normandy enthusiast and as an entry on the must visit bucket list.

Storm Howitzer! by Gary Matthews covers his build of the MiniArt Sturmhaubitze 42.  The 7-page articles describes how Gary built his model with specific tools, paints and products.

Fade to Grey: Pz.I Ausf F Gets a Makeover, by Jaffe Lam, cover his steps for painting and weathering HobbyBoss’ Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf F – Late model kit.  Jaffe's article discusses how he gave new life to an older kit he built years before and achieved a faded and dirty Panzer I.

Death to the Fascists! by Javier Redondo shares how he painted and weathered Dragon’s T-34/76 Mod 1941/42 kit with an eye-catching winter camouflage finish.

Small, but Perfectly Formed?  provides the reader with a 7 page photo  essay of the British Light Mk.VIB tank.  The photos are from The Tank Museum at Bovington and include many closeup detailed photos that will be invaluable for fans of early British armour.  The article includes a list of 1/35 model kits for the Mk.VI.

Michael Wittman’s Tiger gives the reader a quick preview of TAKOM’s late Production Tiger I as used by Michael Wittman at Normandy in 1944.
