Guideline Publications- Military Modelcraft International- March 2025

This month's issue of MMI runs the gamut of genres and time periods for armor modelers with a rare 1/72 scale piece as the cover story and a good mix of WWI, WWII, and modern era subjects. Editor David Grummitt's Forum article speaks to the evolution of new release news- new kits and products used to be announced at large annual events like the Nuremburg Toy Fair and now we see, daily on social media, new announcements from Takom, Rye Field Models, Border, and others. It is an interesting take that I for one didn't notice until reading the article.

Speaking of which, we get monthly news from MMI in their News at the Front and Quartermaster's Stores sections so it is good to see some things don't change. March's new releases come to us from Osiris Models, IBG Models, ICM, Model Cellar, and Rattlesnake. Tucked into the section is a two page report on the aforementioned Nuremburg Toy Fair. The On the Bench article gives us a great look at Rob Riviezzo's build of the new Andy's Hobby HQ M113A1 which he has detailed with stowage sets from Jason Studios and Value Gear. Things conclude with three pages of Quartermaster's Stores sneak peeks.

The cover piece leads things off with Alex Clark's build of the Miniart 1/72 StuG III Ausf. G in "End of the Road". Alex crafted a good amount of his own 3D-printed parts to detail his StuG.

Next up is "Big Cat from Hunting" featuring Thomas Birzer's build of Meng Model's 1/35 Leopard 1A5. The kit was detailed with Leopard Club and Voyager Model sets.

The Armour in Profile article continues MP Robinson's look at Shermans in Israeli service. "Israel's Upgraded Shermans: M50 and M51" is packed with excellent reference photos and five excellent color profiles.

Michelangelo Sicilia is up next with "The Giant", featuring Trumpeter's KV-2 754(r) as a tank in German service. The kit is featured on a scratch-built workshop floor base.

"Small-Scale Challenge" features another braille scale build- this time Marek Zindulka's Trumpeter T-62 built as part of a two-week challenge.

This month, WWI is well represented by Chris Johnson's build up of Roden's Holt 75 artillery tractor with BL 8-inch Howitzer in "Clean-Up in Aisle 4!". I always enjoy Chris' builds and all the extra detail work he puts into his pieces...

Editor David Grummitt is up next with his Belgian CVR(T) FV101 Scorpion built from the AFV Club kit in "Crossed Swords '86". The kit was started in 2022 and David soldiered through and finished the piece just before last Christmas- reminding me that I ought to get on my shelf queens as well!

To accompany the build, we get an Armour in Action on the Belgian CVR(T) written by David as well. Loads of black and white and color images grace the five pages of the article.

This month's At the Bench features Gary Edmundson and his amazing WWI-era builds.

The issue closes out with three book reviews of Panzerwrecks releases and two reviews of books from Osprey Publishing.

Conclusion

As we transition into the warmer weather and start seeing show season open up again, it is good to get inspired by excellent build and reference articles- which MMI has in spades.
