Guideline Publications- Military Modelcraft International- June 2025

June is that perfect time of year when the weather is really starting to turn nice and I no longer have to keep the heat on in my shop to keep my paints from freezing here in capital land NY. It is also prime time for model shows and model group cookouts and getting together with your buddies. For me as a teacher, with school letting out in a few weeks, this is also my prime building season. Nothing inspires me more than a new issue of MMI and this one fits the bill nicely!

Editor David Grummitt brings up the role history plays in our hobby as he reflects on VE Day. Here in the States, we also just had Memorial Day and the anniversary of D-Day to pause and remember those who gave all so we could be free to pursue our livelihoods and our hobbies. June's issue opens with News at the Front and a look at new releases from DDG3D, Copper State Models, JJ Models, HD Models, Attack Kits, Rattlesnake Product, DEF Model, J.W. de Boer Modelbouw, Sol Models, and FC Modeltrend.

This month's On The Bench features Rob Riviezzo's build of the Rye Field Model 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 234/3 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen 7.5cm Stummel. Rob's fine pre-paint work is in full view here as anyone who has seen his display models at AMPS shows can appreciate. Three pages of Quartermaster's Stores completes the preliminary sections of the magazine.

Ilya Yut is up with the first article in "Ich Bin Ein Berliner". Ilya builds up the Meng Model Chieftain Mk.10 in the British Army's Berlin Brigade scheme and provides a bit of a history lesson of the group in the article.

"Proto-Panzer" is up next with Stefan Szymanski's excellent 1/72 diorama featuring the Modelltrans Modelbau A7V-U. The base features a warehouse from Artitec and figures from Germania and Munich.

This month's Armour in Profile continues the German Great War armor theme with "The First Panzers". MP Robinson's reference article focuses on the origins of the tank forces of Germany- and features 5 excellent color profiles of various German armored vehicles from the time.

The cover story features Kreangkrai Paojinda's "The Battle of Kursk (2024)" and his builds of the Rye Field Model M1A2 SEP Abrams and Academy M1151 Humvee. Stellar work all around on this piece!

Ivan Crocker is up next in "The Art of the Diorama" as he writes up his perspective on how dioramas can be used to tell good stories. This is a great read for those planning on dioramas to enter in AMPS shows and to understand AMPS' definition of what a diorama is.

"Winter Warrior" highlights Łukasz Orczyc-Musiałek's build of the Border Model Panzer IV Ausf. G. He used Quick Tracks Winterketten tracks and Griffon Models' photoetch turret schürzen among many other aftermarket additions.

Showtime gives us an in-depth look at the Moson 2025 show with the "Best of the Best". David Grummitt gives us a thorough rundown of the show and some excellent model photos from some amazing talent.

The final article in the issue is At the Bench which spotlights Australian modeler Sam Dwyer. The article features excellent photos of some of Sam's armor and aircraft builds.

The issue closes out with Words and Pictures and has reviews of books by MSZ Publishing, a new Guideline Publications title by author David Doyle, Osprey Publishing, and Pen & Sword.

Conclusion

There was loads of excellent content in this month's issue, as there are in every issue. We ought to see coverage from AMPS Nationals at some point soon in the next few months and I look forward to it.  If you haven't subscribed, here is a link to the Guideline Publications website www.guidelinepublications.co.uk and US customers can subscribe to MMI and pay in US dollars at www.guidelinepublicationsusa.com .

Highly Recommended for Beginner to Advanced builders.

Thanks goes out to Guideline Publications for this review sample.
