AMPS 2026 International Convention

AMPS 2026 is set for 16-18 April 2026 at the Century City, 120 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Blvd in South Bend, IN.

Hotel registration for this event can be found below on this page.

Pre-registration starts on 1 January 2026 and will go through 12 April 2026. You can  pre-register through this site by clicking on the "Register" menu above when pre-registration is active.

Note that, like last year, we will not be accepting hand-written entry forms.  If you don't pre-register you will need to register via one of two laptops on site. To avoid standing in line to register on site, we highly recommend you pre-register.  You don't need to know which models you are bringing when you pre-register - you can add these to your registration and print out your forms up to the day of the show.

 This Year's Show Theme

The theme for the 2026 AMPS convention is “Vietnam”, as voted on by AMPS members at the 2025 convention.

For an entry to be eligible for the theme award at the South Bend 2026 AMPS convention it must meet the following defined criteria. The criteria are any armor vehicle or soft skin vehicle entry in any category, other than figures, that can be documented as representing a specific vehicle that fought in the country of what is now Vietnam. Some examples would be French tanks or armored vehicles used during the Indochina War, US Army or US Marine Corps tanks used throughout the conflict, Australian tanks used in Vietnam, ARVN units that used tanks and armored vehicles, or current tanks and vehicles used by the government of Vietnam. Bottomline, if the tank or vehicle was used in the geographical boundaries of Vietnam, it is eligible.

The entry MUST be accompanied by a photo(s) and at least one reference that documents the vehicle’s participation in Vietnam. It must have both a photo(s) and the reference and meet the standard for awarding a reference score contained in the AMPS contest rules. If it does not, it will not meet the criteria for the theme award. The theme award is open to intermediate and advanced skill levels and to all “Best of” judged entries that meet the criteria.

 AMPS Judging Principles

AMPS created a unique system to both judge the model and honor the modeler for artistic achievement and historical accuracy. It is a peer evaluation and mentoring and not a performance critique by experts. The system groups modelers that have similar skill levels and talents and rates the model in relation to the ability of the modeler rather than against the work of another modeler. The skill levels are Junior, Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Master.

Each model is reviewed and evaluated on its own merits and never compared to another one. Established criteria determine the scoring of the model and qualify the modeler for Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. Each model is judged by a team of judges that score the model independently and the lowest score among the team is dropped. Constructive feedback is provided that sets a path to becoming a better, more skilled modeler.
